With four engine options available for the Sierra 1500, there is always an engine for the job in Meridian. The base engine is a 2.7-liter I4 producing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This engine can carry a maximum of 2,240 pounds in the bed and can pull up to 9,500 pounds. Next in line is a 5.3-liter V8 making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Payload is the same as the 2.7-liter, but towing is increased to 11,200 pounds. The next engine choice is a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Payload decreases to 1,820 pounds, but towing is 13,000 pounds. The last option is a Duramax 3.0-liter turbo diesel I6, producing 305 horsepower and 496 pound-feet of torque. The maximum payload for the diesel is 1,890, while it can tow 13,200 pounds. No matter the job, a Sierra 1500 engine will get it done. The 2.7-liter is mounted to an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the other choices are mounted to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
